Veneer Stone cladding products adhere well to prepared, clean, untreated, structurally sound surfaces such as wallboards, plywood, panelling, cement board, or masonry walls.
We recommend installing directly onto Brick or Block work.

Installing onto fibro cement sheeting is possible, but you must follow the manufacturer’s strict guidelines that are available from Veneer Stone.
James Hardie EasyLap is a fibre cement sheeting used for external wall cladding, and it’s available in 9mm. It’s not a “blue board” like HardieTex. Key points about EasyLap:
- Thickness: EasyLap is 9mm thick
- Application: It’s used for external wall cladding, providing a shiplap joint
- Finish: It’s pre-primed and can be painted on-site to create a rendered look
- Not a “blue board”: The term “blue board” typically refers to HardieTex, which is a base sheet for a textured rendered finish
- Summary: EasyLap is a 9mm thick external cladding sheet, not a “blue board” and it’s designed to be painted or finished with a texture coat.

Can veneer stone be applied to blue board?
While blue board (fibre cement sheeting) is a common building material, it’s generally not recommended as a direct substrate for stone veneer installation, especially for external applications. The primary reason is the potential for the weight and moisture of the stone to affect the integrity of the blue board, especially over time and in various weather conditions.
Can you install onto Plasterboard or Gyprock?
NO. Definitely not as they will not support the weight of the stone. As a replacement for plasterboard you can install onto thick strong compressed fibro cement sheeting. Ensure the installation of fibro cement sheeting follows the manufacturers specifications.
Can you install onto Hebel?
You can, but you must use Veneer Stone SUPER LIGHTWEIGHT product. Contact us for more information.
